An Explanation From the Emmies
Women are more optimistic than men and enjoy life more as they age, suggests a new research that questioned nearly 9,800 people over the age of 50.
OK.
Almost all of this year’s Emmy-nominated actresses are 40-plus, with many in their 50s and some in their 60s.
Well, that explains that then, eh?
Hm, what’s that? There aren’t in fact 9,800 female nominees for the Emmies?
Sigh, back to the drawing board.

Yikes! I had not read this one before I commented on “Men are Happier,” http://www.eqsq.com/vivreladifference/2008/07/29/men-are-happier/. It’s hard to keep up with all these studies and statistics, because, of course, some men are happy and some are not, some women are happy, some are not. Some are happy today but not tomorrow. Some angry tomorrow but not today.
On the same note, why women might be happier as they age: Yes, ridding self of kid duty must feel like a relief on many levels. (But at the same time, the big guy in the house, I am certain, will feel more relief when that time comes; his relief will not be mixed with sadness of kids grown, as mine probably will.) Anyway, there is also this: women outlive men, overall. So can we assume that older women tend to be healthier than older men? Or that eventually, many married women eventually become widows, thus ridding themselves of husband duty?

Strangely, men tend to enjoy better health until they actually fall over than women do. We’re simpler machines in many ways, fewer complicated bits to go wrong.
