It’s good to see that Sandro Kopp is striking a blow for sexual equality here. Firstly of course, it’s long been not unusual for men of wealth and power to have a younger babe hanging off their arm: whether publically having traded in the older model or more privately as a mistress (”niece” is the current synonym in English circles). Sandro Kopp is simply taking that in a more sexually egalitarina manner: he’s the toyboy hanging off the arm of a richer woman, one Tilda Swinton.

Tilda Swinton’s love life is even more unconventional than first thought.

The actress, 47, lives in the Scottish Highlands with playwright John Byrne, 68, father of her twins Xavier and Honor, 10.

But she travels the world with German-born toyboy Sandro Kopp, 29, who went to the Oscars with her in February.

How excellent, don’t you think? Gender equality at last!

There is, of course, another wrinkle to this:

Swinton, who won the best supporting actress Oscar for her role in the movie Michael Clayton, has two partners: John Byrne, 67, and Sandro Kopp, 29.

But website Live News reported Byrne - a director, artist and playwright - had been romantically linked to lighting director Jeanine Davis, 42, for two years.

Swinton, 47, has an open relationship with Bryne, and the actress also has a relationship with Kopp - a painter from Wellington.

Byrne told Live News the situation was “relaxed and amicable”.

“We have not hidden away and Jeanine is very much part of my life. Tilda knows all about it and is more than happy with the situation.

“Tilda has Sandro and the arrangement works very well.”

There is however a rather more unsavoury addition to the cast of characters:

The actress has not one but two partners: painter John Byrne, who happens to be the father of her twins,  and with painter Sandro Kopp.

Two painters… hmm… art must be her weak spot… well, not always. British National Party politician Richard Barnbrook claims to have been Swinton’s lover, the Independent reported. Wannabe Monica Lewinsky, Barnbrook claims to have DNA proof to support his claim.

Not everyone is all that happy at the arrangements, it has to be said:

But there’s one person who’s completely devastated by 29-year-old Kopp’s decision to accompany the award-winning actress, 47, on her travels ’round the globe: Kopp’s former girlfriend of four years, Emma Williamson.

In an interview with Britain’s Daily Mail, Williamson, 26, spills her guts on getting jilted by Swinton’s new arm candy, with whom she was once “deeply in love.” Turns out he did it the classy way — via e-mail from the set of “The Chronicles of Narnia,” where he and Swinton met.

“I was really missing Sandro so I rang him,” Williamson, a red-haired Brit, told the paper. “When I got through his voice was very distant and he asked whether I had got the e-mail he had just sent me.

“I hadn’t and it turned out it was basically breaking up with me. I thought it was pretty shoddy after four years together.

All very complicated and for some heart breaking no doubt.

But here’s to Tilda at least, for showing us that it’s not just horny old men who pursue the young, and to Sandro Kopp for showing that it’s not just the naive (or scheming) young women who allow themselves to get caught.
